Food Journal

Geneen Roth suggests keeping a food journal for at least a week (although she kept one for a year). Just to examine what was eaten, how I felt, etc… And she admits that it may strike a bit of fear because a food journal sounds like something done back in the “diet days”.
I have not started mine yet. It does scare me. I have journaled in the past (both on paper and with computer programs such as FitDay) and it always led me to obsession. I realize that’s not what Roth wants from this exercise but I wonder if I have it in me not to obsess.
I still plan to do it. I guess I just needed some time to have it sit with me and to recognize the fear it’s causing me.
When I first started to accept that I had an ED, I went to my doctor who asked me to do just this…It started me of again and I was back to square one. Fore some reason you remember that back in the ‘dieting days’ like you said, this is what you used to do. So for me - seeing the amount of foo I was eating actually caused my bulimia to come back. For some ppl it works - for me it didn’t!
